Screenwriting & Storytelling

Curran has spent years developing feature screenplays and television pilots, primarily in comedy and character-driven storytelling. Her work often uses humor, heightened situations, and unconventional protagonists to examine larger questions about identity, power, belonging, family, and personal liberation.

Among her current projects is EVERYWHEN, a family action-adventure comedy about the children of two scientists who accidentally unleash long-lost creatures into the modern world through their mother's experimental spacetime technology. As their discovery attracts the attention of a billionaire determined to commercialize it, the fractured family must come together to protect both the creatures and one another. Beneath its adventure premise, the story explores family, extinction, scientific responsibility, wonder, and the tension between discovery and exploitation.

Her satirical feature Gynocracy Now approaches cultural and political power from another direction. The story follows five very different women whose weekend experiment unexpectedly becomes the foundation of a legitimate political movement. Using comedy and ensemble storytelling, the project examines ambition, gender, idealism, friendship, power, and what happens when people who never intended to lead suddenly find themselves being followed.

Although Curran's projects move across genres, they share a recurring fascination: the moment a character discovers that the reality they have accepted is not the only reality available to them.

That question—what happens when we stop performing the story we were handed?—would eventually expand beyond her screenwriting and become central to her work with archetypes and Beyond Retreats.

Archetypes, Myth & Self-Inquiry

Alongside her work as a writer, Curran has spent years studying the relationship between story, psychology, mythology, and identity.

Her study has drawn particularly from Jungian psychology, Caroline Myss' work with archetypes, Carol Pearson's archetypal frameworks, and the Hero's and Heroine's Journey. She became fascinated with archetypes not simply as literary devices but as a practical language for recognizing the characters, patterns, contradictions, and unconscious narratives operating within a life.

For Curran, the connection between screenwriting and archetypal work is natural. Writers construct characters by asking what they want, what they fear, what roles they are playing, what they refuse to see, and what must happen for them to change. Archetypal inquiry turns many of those same questions toward the self.

Her approach is therefore less about adopting a spiritual identity than about developing the capacity to observe one's own story. What roles have we been cast in? Which did we choose? Which once protected us but have become limiting? What possibilities become visible when the old narrative is no longer treated as inevitable?

This intersection of storytelling, archetypes, creativity, and self-knowledge has become one of the defining threads of her work.

Yoga, Embodiment & Spiritual Practice

Curran's exploration of consciousness has also been deeply informed by yoga and meditation. A longtime practitioner, she has completed more than 400 hours of yoga training, including study in power yoga, yin, and embodied feminine practices. Her practice has also included vinyasa, Kundalini, meditation, yoga philosophy, and other contemplative traditions.

She undertook professional teacher trainings largely because she wanted to understand the philosophy and wisdom underneath the physical practice rather than simply learn how to teach classes. That distinction continues to shape her relationship with yoga.

She is particularly interested in yoga as a technology of attention: a practice through which people can become quiet enough to notice their habitual reactions, reconnect with the body, and encounter aspects of themselves that are difficult to access through intellect alone.

Having grown up dancing, Curran's understanding of creativity has always included the body. Movement, meditation, writing, visual art, ritual, and contemplation are not separate categories in her work so much as different ways of entering the same conversation.

Beyond Retreats

Curran founded Beyond Retreats out of a question that had followed her through years of creative and spiritual exploration: As an adult, in a largely non-religious world, where do you go to get to know yourself? Beyond Retreats grew as an answer to that question.

The company creates intimate retreats, workshops, and online experiences designed around self-knowledge, creativity, courage, embodiment, and meaningful encounter. Rather than organizing experiences around a single teacher or guru, Beyond brings together practices and practitioners from different disciplines to create carefully constructed journeys.

Its philosophy is reflected in its name: Beyond is an invitation to move beyond the habitual, the performative, and the surface-level—to become curious about what exists underneath.

Curran's work on Beyond encompasses much more than retreat hosting. She has shaped the company's concept, brand, storytelling, programming, visual identity, guest journey, and experience design, approaching a retreat almost as she would approach a narrative.

The sequence matters. An experience needs an opening, a deepening, moments of challenge and discovery, space for integration, and eventually a return. Practices are not simply assembled into a schedule; they are chosen according to what part of that larger journey they serve.

Beyond experiences may weave together yoga, meditation, nervous-system regulation, archetypal inquiry, storytelling, reflection, healing practices, sound, ceremony, cultural immersion, shared meals, nature, and community.

In Beyond Bali: The Art of Sacred Living, an intimate five-day Ubud experience, Curran leads storytelling, archetype, and reflective workshops. Drawing on the Hero's and Heroine's Journey and the practice of meaning-making, she invites guests to recognize inherited roles and examine the narratives guiding their lives.

The aim is not to tell participants who they should become. It is to create enough space, beauty, structure, and interruption of ordinary life for people to hear themselves more clearly.

Bali

Bali has played an important role in the evolution of Curran's work. She first came to the island in 2014 and eventually made her home in Ubud. Living there placed her inside a culture in which ritual, offering, community, spirituality, nature, and beauty remain integrated into the rhythms of everyday life.

Rather than treating Bali simply as a picturesque setting for wellness travel, Curran became interested in what living within that environment could teach about the relationship between the sacred and the ordinary.

That perspective informed the development of Beyond Retreats and particularly Beyond Bali: The Art of Sacred Living, an immersive experience designed around yoga, healing, ceremony, reflection, storytelling, and cultural initiation.

The idea at its center is simple but significant: the sacred does not have to be reserved for extraordinary moments. It can become a way of paying attention to ordinary life.

Artist & Maker

Curran's creative practice extends beyond writing. She paints, makes jewelry, and creates wheel-thrown ceramics, working across forms that allow for a more tactile and intuitive creative process than screenwriting.

If writing begins with narrative, her visual and material work often begins somewhere less verbal—with form, texture, image, movement, color, or an idea that has not yet become language.

This multidisciplinary practice reflects a larger belief running through Curran's work: creativity is not limited to people who identify professionally as artists. It is a human capacity for seeing possibility.

Whether the medium is a screenplay, a ceramic object, a retreat, a business, or a life, creation begins with essentially the same act: imagining something that does not yet exist and then developing the courage and discipline to give it form.

A Creative Life

It can be tempting to view Curran's work as a collection of different careers—screenwriter, entrepreneur, artist, yogi, archetypal guide—but she sees those disciplines as increasingly connected.

Screenwriting taught her to look for the story beneath what is happening. Archetypal study gave her another language for understanding the characters people unconsciously become. Yoga and meditation brought that inquiry into the body. Art taught her to create without needing everything to be intellectually resolved first. Entrepreneurship required turning imagination into something concrete. And Beyond Retreats became a place where those strands could meet.

At the center of all of them is curiosity about human possibility: how people change, how identity is constructed, why certain stories become prisons while others become maps, and what can happen when someone becomes conscious enough to participate in writing what comes next.

Curran continues to develop film and television projects alongside her work with Beyond Retreats and her broader creative practice. Increasingly, her work moves between storytelling, archetypal exploration, art, embodiment, and the creation of experiences that invite people into deeper inquiry.

The medium changes. The underlying question remains remarkably consistent: What becomes possible when we realize the story we're living isn't finished yet?
